Sara Priscila Cerrato Diaz
Sara Priscilla Cerrato is a coffee producer in the mountains of southeastern Honduras. Sara’s life has always been with coffee. She began as a young girl, helping her father plant and harvest coffee in his finca. When Sara married Jorge, together they began buying parcels of land from her father, using the earnings Jorge received from working in pine resin production to invest into their Finca Las Peñas. They have invested savings into converting pastureland into a finca.
Between 2011-2013 there was a fungus outbreak, coffee leaf rust, which destroyed their Bourbon varietal coffee crop, and they began again and were able to plant several new varietals including this Parainema that forms the microlot. Sara is proud that on their finca they use very few chemicals, clearing the weeds by hand. Their aspiration is to have an organic finca, reutilizing all the organic material and having a vermicompost.
Sara and her husband Jorge continue to work hard on their farm, and they are very grateful that their relationship continues to thrive favorably. That's why their plans to purchase a new parcel to further expand their farm are now taking shape. Currently, they are planting approximately 1.35 hectares of Parainema coffee variety.
On another note, they are diversifying their coffee farm by cultivating cardamom, which is already being harvested, and they can market it in collaboration with their cooperative, Fronteras de Oriente.
